block prints to see

Choose an image. What do you think the work is about? How is this communicated to us?

“Bad Advice I” by Mike Houston

I think this work is about someone who is unsure of what their path in life is going to be and that if not picked young, you’re going be stuck on a unwanted path. It communicates to us through the level of detail that was put into the block. The artist chose to put a frame around this one moment in time. You can see that maybe that the gentleman has been there for a long time and it is time for the next person to play. There is so much going on that it takes a long time to grasp the full perception of what is going on. I think this image is a very strong image.

This article is about the up rise in computer art. Ever since the computer was invented and released to the public and had internet there was a common thing going with it. With the internet came the viruses and worms to ruin programs. There was however folks who looked at the error message reading “error 404”, and looking at this as computer art. As the years progressed and technology advance so did the ability of sites that generate this computer art.

The picture above was done on what looks to be a Google map with all the icons for places.  I found this out to be very quick to see how easy it is to make this. One of the understandings I found was that a simple computer coding issue can become the next big thing in art.

Andrew Wyeth

Andrew Wyeth was best known for his works that were on the modernist’s abstractionist side. Of course his most famous and most critiqued painting is “Christina’s World”. He himself has often stated that the painting could have been better without the girl in it, but I have that Wyeth is wrong, that she makes the painting. Wyeth would often paint nature scenes, but also would do the here and there paintings of portraits and indoor scenes.

As I looked over the two sites I went to and looked at the images, Wyeth had strong lines and gained the attention of the viewers with the art. All of his art work has balance with light and dark to where items go within the painting. I also saw that a lot of time went into finding that right color to make the painting the best it could be.

1) Gutenberg influenced many people with the work he did to make printing a faster process.  This new process made printing faster by getting rid of the wood block for cast metal letters. The device became mechanized and allowed generations to come to make word prints faster without the carving.

2)Advancements like these, allow books and prints to be made with out the danger of the block breaking every few prints. It also would allow the ability to record important information that needs to be recorded.
The biggest thought would be that the cost of making each block would go down and they could spend more time and money in making the prints to sell to the people.

3)The photocopier is the modern day printing press. You are taking an object that is already made and making copies to produce. They are similar due to the principle of what they do. They make copies of an image. They are different due to the letter press you have to put the letters in the place you want them by hand. Over time those letters will need to be replaced. a photocopier you have done the work already by means of a computer and the letters do not have to be replaced.
